Chelsea have “set fire to four points” from their last two home games, an angered Liam Rosenior declared.
The Blues were leading 1-0 through Joao Pedro but were down to ten men following Wesley Fofana’s red card when they conceded a 93rd-minute header to Burnley’s Zian Flemming as they were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw with the side 19th in the Premier League table.
That was despite five nominal centre-backs being on the pitch for Chelsea when Flemming scored the equaliser.
It marked the 19th points dropped from winning positions by Chelsea in the Premier League this season. 17 of those have come at home — a league high.
The match followed a similar script to Chelsea’s last Premier League match, when they gave up a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at home to Leeds United.
“We’ve set fire to four points from two home games,” Rosenior said.
“After the first goal, we lacked incision. Were too safe in our possession. It’s not good enough for a club of this level for me to come and say we were the better team.
“We need to win games. I know what the answer is and we will address it in the week.”
The 41-year-old, whose side still moved up to fourth in the table thanks to their point, added: “There’s too many instances, even in my time here, where we have conceded goals from moments of lack of concentration, lack of accountability. Wolves away, Crystal Palace away, Leeds at home, today.
“The teams that win titles win games 1-0 even when they haven’t been their best. That should have been at least a 1-0 today.”
Andrey Santos celebrated his defending as he conceded the corner that Flemming ended up equalising from, but Rosenior said he is fond of celebrations of that kind.
“Yes, I do [like it],” he said. “I like players that enjoy defending. The reality is: we didn’t do the next part well enough.”
