Angry Leeds people's 'disgrace' as one of city's war heroes struggles to pay energy bills

There has been an outpouring of anger after it was revealed a 98-year-old war veteran living in Leeds has to disconnect his hot water system every other night because energy prices are soaring too high.

Former World War II soldier Jack Mortimer said he doesn't use his main light at night anymore, switching on a single bulb reading lamp instead.

He lives in fear of his energy bill, like many pensioners, and told Leeds Live: “Nobody seems to be worried about us. It’s like once you get over 75 they don’t want to know.”
