Blundering council workers today tarmaced over road markings in Stevenson Square — just A DAY after they were mistakenly painted.
Lines were laid down on Monday (January 23) in the Northern Quarter square, three-quarters of which has been pedestrianised permanently, in areas where vehicles are no longer allowed. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the entirety of Stevenson Square was closed off to traffic, but after a row with bus firms, one section outside the Fred Aldous store reopened in December as a bus lane.
Now, however, bungling council staff had to remedy their own mistakes — which saw one team paint lines for a bus stop and loading bay — but another come back 24 hours later to clean it up. It’s led one councillor for the area to slam the ‘gross waste of taxpayers’ money’.
