The junction of Hucknall Road and Arnold Road is said to be causing people problems when driving. Some have said that the junction is always congested and, in some areas, there’s poor visibility on the road. The junction is near City Hospital close to Bestwood.
There have been reported accidents at the junction, including in March when a taxi driver suffered ‘terrible’ injuries after a motorist didn’t stop at a red light. Now, people in the area have shared their thoughts about the junction although City Council pointed out that accidents are 'not particularly prevalent' at the location.

Robert Wright, 57 and from Bestwood, has noticed at rush hour that the junction gets very busy. He said: “In the mornings I’d say that the road isn’t that bad but once it gets to rush hour, the road is ridiculous.
“Personally, I think that some drivers get confused in congested areas like this and will drive anyhow to get out of it. With ambulances coming by often because the hospital is right there, drivers do need to be more cautious and take their time.
“I wouldn’t go as far to say that this junction is a nightmare but it definitely needs improvement. I can see all angles of the road well enough but there have been a few accidents on this junction that I can remember so improvement is required.”
Wendy Ramsdale, who is retired, lives near the junction. The 65-year-old said it causes her lots of problems.
She said: “It’s [the junction] a pain. The traffic is horrendous and something needs to be done about the width of the roads.
“It’s like this all the time, when I moved here 25 years ago, it was much more quiet, that’s for sure. They keep building houses then wonder why there’s so much traffic, it’s dangerous.”
Maxwell Sibanda, 60, is retired and no longer drives but agrees with other drivers' concerns.
He said: “I would say that round the corners, there’s no gaps for other drivers to see what’s coming. I remember one accident a few years ago but the road isn’t that bad. It’s not as bad as Hyson Green!”
Another person mentioned that trees at the side of the road may also sometimes obscure vision.
A City Council spokesperson said: “We have proposals for a scheme that would address issues such as traffic build-up, visibility and turning at this junction, as the next phase of improvements already carried out on Hucknall Road. However, this is subject to further public consultation.
“In the meantime, our inspectors check the roads regularly and will arrange for overgrown vegetation to be trimmed when it becomes an issue. At this time of year, plants are growing quickly so the situation can change between visits. This is a busy junction but accidents are not particularly prevalent, with on average around two or three slight injuries a year.”
