Vandals who defaced a Black Country park mural dedicated to the late Queen Elizabeth ll have been branded “vile specimens”.
The colourful artwork at Abbey Street Park, in Gornalwood, Dudley, had been created to commemorate Her Majesty’s historic Platinum Jubilee earlier this year. But following the death of the 96-year-old monarch, thugs have trashed the wall painting by writing their names and graffitiing all over them, reports Birmingham Live.
A spokesperson for Friends of Abbey Street Park – also known as ‘Gornal Rec’ – wrote on Facebook: “To say we are fuming is an understatement! On our litter pick this morning we were confronted by these images.
“We are in national mourning for the loss of our dear Queen and some vile specimens of life have decided it would be a great idea to destroy Gornal’s tribute to her late Majesty on reaching her Platinum Jubilee by signing their names in the mural. How dare you.
“If you see your child’s name in the pictures, ask them where they were when they went out over the weekend. Someone knows who has done this.”
Supporters of the group were quick to also show their dismay, with one follower writing: “Sadly there is no discipline and no deterrent for these vile disgusting adolescents”, while another just added: “That’s heartbreaking.”
