Angelina Jolie: actor, philanthropist, and now, a trained opera singer. Angelina is back in the limelight for her new movie, Maria, where she stars as the opera icon Maria Callas. Directed by Pablo Larraín, the biopic will showcase Maria’s life as one of the most influential opera singers of the 20th century. The film will focus on Maria’s final days in 1970s Paris, exploring a period when she had lost her voice and was trying to regain it.
Angelina shared her nervousness about learning to sing like Maria, admitting she had not sung in public before. She underwent seven months of intense training to do justice to Maria and her fans. Angelina expressed gratitude for her sons, who protected her privacy during her opera journey, recalling their support during her first nerve-wracking performance.
Following its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, Maria received an 8-minute standing ovation, with Angelina visibly emotional and wiping away tears. When asked about the possibility of winning her second acting Oscar for the portrayal, Angelina emphasized her concern about not disappointing Maria’s fans and opera lovers.
Angelina won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2000 and received a Best Actress nomination in 2008. Netflix has acquired the streaming rights for Maria but has not announced an official release date yet. Angelina hopes the film will inspire more people to explore opera music.
