Angela Rippon 'ecstatic' ahead of surprise Strictly Come Dancing cameo

Angela Rippon will take to the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom alongside two very famous faces this weekend.

The former host of Come Dancing, which has been dubbed the 'original Strictly' will be making a cameo on the BBC One dance competition as part of the 100th-anniversary celebrations for the network.

Angela, 78, will dance with Coronation Street's Kym Marsh and her professional partner Graziano Di Prima, as they dance the quickstep to the theme tune of the show, Ballroom Blitz.

The Rip Off Britain star hosted Come Dancing between 1988 and 1991, before returning in 1998.

Unlike Strictly, the show saw everyday folk take to the dancefloor, rather than the famous faces viewers are familiar with nowadays.

Speaking to the Mail, a source said: "This will be a special moment for so many Strictly fans who will remember Angela as the much-loved host of Come Dancing.

"While she isn't a ballroom dancer, she is a member of the Strictly and Come Dancing family so having her appearing in the routine to the show's theme tune, BBC bosses hope, will be a perfect way to give the most wonderful nod to the series that produced Strictly."

Angela, however, appeared on the Children in Need version of Strictly back in 2011 – the same year she served as a guest judge on Dancing On Ice.

This week, the celebrities will also take to the dancefloor, paying respect to the late Sir Terry Wogan, who hosted Come Dancing and the late Sir Bruce Forsyth who was the face of Strictly Come Dancing.

Footage from the BBC's archive folders will be shown during the opening dance routine to Bring Me Sunshine.

An insider told the publication that it will certainly be an "emotional moment", especially for Sir Bruce's former co-presenter, Tess Daly.

Each dance will pay homage to a programme which has aired across the BBC network, with Helen Skelton dancing to the Blue Peter theme tune, having fronted the show from 2008 through til 2013.

Meanwhile, EastEnders star James Bye will be dancing the Foxtrot to the show's theme tune, and Tony Adams and Katya Jones will be doing the Cha Cha to the BBC Sports Grandstand theme tune.

Singer Fleur East will also be practising her Jive to none other than Waterloo by ABBA, made famous at the Eurovision Song Contest.

Will Mellor is set to send fans wild with the Viennese Waltz to the Line of Duty end titles.
