Angela Rayner has resigned as Deputy Prime Minister and Housing Secretary after admitting she failed to pay the correct rate of stamp duty on a property purchase.
The Labour deputy leader said she had “acted in good faith” but accepted she had fallen short of the standards expected of senior politicians. She said the ongoing scrutiny had taken an “unbearable” toll on her family and that she had decided to step down from government.
