LSU star Angel Reese added another accomplishment to her résumé this weekend as she was named to the Team USA roster for the 2023 women’s AmeriCup.
The women’s AmeriCup tournament is held every two years, featuring the top players from 10 different countries in North America, South America and the Caribbean. The United States won the most recent tournament in 2021, which marked the country’s fourth title in the event.
Also named to the Team USA roster are Lauren Betts, Rickea Jackson, Raven Johnson, Rayah Marshall, Charisma Osborne, Laila Phelia and Jewel Spear. The roster isn’t final, as other players can still be invited to training camp as part of the selection process.
The United States will play its first game on July 1 against Venezuela. Then, they will face Argentina, Brazil and Cuba in group play. The quarterfinals will be held July 7, with the semifinals scheduled for July 8 and the finals slated for July 9. The tournament will be held in León, Mexico.
Reese is coming off LSU’s national title win over Iowa on April 1. During the game, Reese went viral for her reactions, including when she mocked Hawkeyes star Caitlin Clark with John Cena’s “Can’t See Me” move and when she pointed to her ring finger near the end of the game.
Since the game, Reese’s NIL valuation has skyrocketed to an estimated $1.3 million, according to On3. The forward has partnered with companies such as Raising Cane’s, Caktus AI, Campus Ink, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Leaf Trading Cards and Bleacher Report.
