Inverness Caley Thistle have the ominous task of trying to see off Celtic in Saturday’s Scottish Cup Final but if you’re looking for some love for the Highlander's underdog story, you are barking up the wrong tree.
The Caley Jags took a kicking on the harsh Hotline for not selling all their tickets and for daring to dream. Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: “Billy Dodds says he has a secret weapon up his sleeve to beat Celtic in the Scottish Cup this weekend. Let’s hope it's a hypnotist and making them believe they are all the Lisbon Lions.”
Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, said: “I'm already fed up of the 'fairytale' tosh surrounding Dodds and his boring Inverness Caley Thistle side. We all know that the Highlanders will bring little to the final .” Neil Renton, Edinburgh, said: “Dodds is wrong to criticise others for his side's poor ticket sales for the Scottish Cup Final against Celtic. It’s hardly an everyday occurrence that Caley Thistle make it to a final. Maybe if they get to another they should hold it in a telephone box which would be of a suitable size for their support.”
John Caw hasn't forgotten 2015 and emailed: “Josh Meekings says he was lucky not to be sent off for handball. One hand? No it was two and the only ones who missed it were the officials.” Treble chasing Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is still being linked with the Tottenham job but Rab Picken, Glasgow, said: “How I laugh. The Premier League is bigger and better than any European league or cup. Just look at his record in them. Celtic went out of three tournaments in one season. In the EPL he’d take Spurs down. Get off the Fosters, he ain't going to there as he’s not good enough.”
Gers fan Alan Flett suggested Celts would celebrate a Treble like beating Real Madrid. But Grant Richards hit back and said: “Perhaps Alan has suffered some memory loss and recall his team running about the pitch with their embarrassing champions of the Scottish Cup t-shirts on after winning last year.”
Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon, said: “See motormouth Alan Flett going on about the champions again. On Saturday Glasgow will be green and white as another big celebration is coming our way.”
Martin McGarrigle emailed: “If Bealemania’s Bears were going for a world Treble record on Saturday it’d mean nothing then? We’d never hear the end of it. On Big Ange, three in a row and some European in-roads is what I want – then I’ll drive him where he wants to go. He still has work to do, we still have a lot of deadwood we need to chop down.”
Across the city, Michael Beale's Rangers revolution is underway, but Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, said: “The jury is still out on the manager as they need to be a huge improvement to compete against Celtic.
"Throwing around several unknowns who have been let go by their clubs it all seems a bit of a risk and won't fill the fans with confidence. Record Sport’s Gordon Parks summed it up in a nutshell about Kevin van Veen when he said a player that would be gold dust for any club.”
And Hoops fan Seamie Gallacher, Glasgow, said: “As a very satisfied Celtic fan sitting days from possible history, I can be only enthralled that Mick Beale has decided to unleash Norwich reserves at Celtic next season.”
