The lure of Champions League football with Celtic means Ange Postecoglou won't be leaving for Tottenham just yet, according to one former star.
Former Hoops and Spurs defender Ramon Vega is in no doubt that Postecoglou has the skills to transform another of his former clubs after losing their way. The Aussie is top of the London clubs shortlist after a failed attempt to poach Arne Slot from Feyenoord. The bookies also have him leading the pack and the English Premier League outfit may try and tempt Postecoglou away from Glasgow.
But Vega reckons that will be difficult with another group stage campaign set to get underway this season. Celtic competed but ultimately failed to pick up a victory last year. Real Madrid and RB Leipzig were victorious against the Scottish champions home and away, with their only points coming courtesy of two 1-1 draws with displaced Shakhtar Donetsk.
Postecoglou is keen to see performances rewarded with points this time around. There’s every chance Tottenham could miss out of European football altogether, and Vega can’t see Ange passing up his Champions League opportunity to take his place in the Hotspurs hot seat.
“He’s a top manager and at my ex-club Celtic, he’s done a fantastic job for them,” Vega told Sky Sports. “But I doubt he’ll leave Celtic now, especially when they are in the Champions League. But without question, he has done a fantastic job for Celtic Football Club.”
