Former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou will take on punditry duties during this summer's Euro 2024 working with one of the UK's biggest broadcasters.
It's understood both the BBC and ITV were keen to sign up the articulate and sometimes outspoken Australian football coach, with the Daily Mail now reporting the latter is in pole position in the race for his signature.
Postecoglou, now in charge of Tottenham Hotspur and having led the London side to a fifth-place finish in the English Premier League this year, is currently touring his homeland.
There, Spurs will take on Eddie Howe's Newcastle United in a showpiece fixture in Melbourne.
The Daily Mail reports that both the BBC and ITV missed out on outgoing Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, who is thought to have sidestepped the opportunity to enjoy taking in the Germany-set tournament as a fan.
As Celtic supporters learned first-hand between the summers of 2021 and 2023, one of Postecoglou's most endearing qualities is his penchant for speaking his mind, which is likely one of the reasons the BBC and ITV were interested in the Australian in the first place.
Last week, this trait saw the 58-year-old lose his temper with a Tottenham fan behind the dugout during a 2-0 home defeat to Manchester City, and deliver an explosive post-match interview at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
A few days later, the Australian spoke in praise of Celtic's achievements this year, after Brendan Rodgers and his players clinched a third consecutive Scottish Premiership title.
He said: "I love them, mate. Yeah, brilliant. Great people, great manager, great staff, great footballers, unbelievable club.
"I watched the game and I know, because I have experienced it, how they would have felt at that final whistle and then going back to Celtic Park late at night.
"It's a pretty special place and credit to them, it was a difficult year for Brendan and the guys but when it mattered, when it counted they stood up and I couldn't be happier for everyone there."
