Ange Postecoglou Replacement: Five bosses who could take over

Who would make a suitable Ange Postecoglou replacement? It is the question being asked by Tottenham fans following the side’s disastrous run of form.

Despite starting off his tenure as Spurs boss well last season, things have spiralled in north London this campaign.

Tottenham‘s latest damning defeats – a 4-3 loss to rivals Chelsea on Sunday where they initially lead 2-0, followed by a 1-1 draw with Rangers in the Europa League at Ibrox. Just one win in eight games has made Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou one of the bookies’ favourites to be sacked next.

In total, Spurs have lost seven games already this season, with four in their last eight games and two defeats in their last three. It leaves Tottenham 11th in the Premier League table with 20 points from 15 games and nineth in the Europa League standings.

It remains to be seen if Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will stick with Postecoglou as part of a long-term project or decide to cut his losses and start over again.

But who are the ideal candidates to replace Ange Postecoglou as Tottenham boss? Here are five bosses that could succeed the Australian.

Ange Postecoglou Replacement: Five Candidates Who Could Succeed Him At Tottenham

Kieran McKenna

A return to Tottenham could be on the cards for Kieran McKenna, considering he was once a youth coach at Spurs.

The 38-year-old has thrived since going into management, guiding Ipswich to back-to-back promotions and a return to the Premier League for the first time in 22 years.

While he may not have years of experience as a top level coach, McKenna’s brand of football and promising start has made him an attractive proposition for many clubs.

However, with Ipswich currently 19th in the Premier League, his appointment would come as a risky one.

Fabian Hurzeler

If you can’t beat them, copy them. That seems to be the approach Spurs have had when it comes to looking at Brighton’s success.

Brighton’s successful data-driven approach to transfers has been taken on board by Spurs in recent years. And when they were shopping around for a new boss following Antonio Conte’s sacking, former Seagulls manager Roberto De Zerbi was on their radar.

They went for Ange Postecoglou instead but current Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler could be a potential target for Spurs, very much for the same reasons as McKenna.

A young and exciting coach, Hurzeler has taken to life in the Premier League superbly. And at 31 years old, is the youngest Premier League coach ever.

His style of play mimics that somewhat of Postecoglou’s, with attacking football coming first. Another risky option given his severe lack of experience.

Graham Potter

Alongside McKenna, Graham Potter is another Englishman that makes the list of potential managers who could replace Postecoglou.

It would be another former Chelsea boss Spurs would hire, should they decide to go with the 49-year-old.

Potter’s slower brand of football and preference for possession would be somewhat of a change to Postecoglou. However, with more emphasis on defensive football while still holding a high regard for attacking could be a welcomed change.

Potter has rejected jobs at Crystal Palace and West Ham since his sacking from Chelsea. But a club of Spurs’ stature could tempt him back to the Premier League.

Thomas Frank

A manager that always seems to pop up whenever it appears that a new top job could become available.

Thomas Frank has done wonders at Brentford and would be an ideal like-for-like replacement for Ange Postecoglou.

A popular coach among players, fans and the media and has an eye for talent, especially in the transfer market.

With a bigger budget behind him, Frank would have to prove himself in what would be a biggest step up in his career.

Brendan Rodgers

The bookies favourite to take over from Ange Postecoglou is Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.

According to best football betting sites in the UK, Rodgers is the 5/2 favourite to be the next Tottenham manager.

Despite having had two successful spells at the Scottish heavyweight giants, his latest stint at Celtic has been somewhat of a rocky one and a move back to the Premier League could be on the cards if a job became available.

It would see Spurs go to Celtic again for a managerial appointment and is looking like the most likely one.

Compared to other managers on the list, Spurs fans might not view it as the most exciting. But his style of play and experience could tempt Spurs into taking a punt on the Northern Irish manager.
