World Cup-bound Japan have placed Ange Postecoglou atop their wanted list if they make a managerial change after the Qatar showpiece.
The Celtic boss is highly respected in the Land of the Rising Sun for his sterling work with Yokahama Marinos before joining the Premiership champions in 2021. Incumbent Samurai Blue manager Hajime Moriyasu could remain beyond the World Cup but Postecoglou has been namechecked if they make a change with a foreign boss craved.
Nikkan Sports claim Japan technical director Yasuharu Sorimachi has reached out to Postecoglou over the possibility of leading Japan into their next era. 57-year-old Postecoglou is no stranger to the rigours of international management with four years at the helm of Australia. He earned acclaim with his success as Socceroos boss as he won the Asia Cup and led his country to consecutive World Cups.
And his knowledge of Japanese football makes him a compelling candidate if the axe falls on Moriyasu. Daizen Maeda is going to Qatar and fellow Celtic stars Reo Hatate and Kyogo are likely to key men in the coming years for their country. But the Celtic boss appears focused on life in Glasgow's east end. Postecoglou has underlined his happiness at Parkhead and is already forward planning to have another crack at next season's Champions League.
Postecoglou is adored by his Celtic public after securing Premiership title glory last season and his champions have opened up a nine-point lead over rivals Rangers as they aim to make it consecutive title triumphs.
