Ange Postecoglou insists Tottenham will 'grow in every area' in warning to Premier League rivals

Ange Postecoglou has warned Tottenham's Premier League rivals that they still have huge room for improvement going forward.

Table-topping Spurs are unbeaten in nine League games under Postecoglou ahead of Friday's visit to Crystal Palace and have scored 20 top-flight goals -- more than either of last season's top two Manchester City and Arsenal have managed.

But Postecoglou believes his new-look side can be more "natural and fluent" in the final third.

"We still have to grow in every area," Postecoglou said on Thursday. "There are areas where we are already very good, particularly around the defensive side of the game. I think we've been excellent there, really consistent.

"I said after the game on Monday night [a 2-0 win over Fulham] that that's what won us the game. To work really hard and press the opposition and be really disciplined and committed to forcing oppositions into mistakes. That's been really good and really pleasing for me.

"I still think our main growth will come in the attacking side of the game. I still think particularly in the front third, a lot of our movements are still not natural and fluent like we want them to be, which isn't surprising. But what is getting us the goals is that we have great quality up there, which is contributing to that. But I still think the biggest growth for us will be in our attacking side of the game."

Spurs can go five points clear at the top of a table with another victory at Selhurst Park but Postecoglou played down the significance of their position, and says he is not talking to his squad about a title challenge.

"There is a real good reason no manager will talk about winning a title in October or November because we know there's a long way to go," he said. "We don't sort of talk in those terms with the players.

"My main information flow is about how can we keep improving, how can we tackle the challenge of being in the most competitive league in the world on a weekly basis. That's the real challenge for us, particularly at our stage of development is to understand that irrespective of what is happening outside and noise from outside, every game is a really hard one for us at the moment in where we are as a team.

"We need to be fully focused on that and from my perspective the lads have been really good at just keeping their eyes firmly on what's next and what's next for us is a tough game for us tomorrow night."

Postecoglou will be up against the Premier League's elder statesman in 76-year-old Roy Hodgson on Friday night.

The Australian believes the variety of Hodgson's career sets him apart but played down the chances of still being a manager at the same age.

"That's not the plan!" Postecoglou said. "At 76 [hopefully I am] somewhere on a Greek island, lying back watching football from around the world, maybe doing some punditry and becoming an expert overnight. That's the plan but you never know in life, mate.

"I just think [Roy] has had the richest of careers. He's coached here, coached abroad, coached big clubs, small clubs, fought for honours.

"He's fought against relegation. He's coached in different countries and whenever he does decide to quit, which probably won't be for a while the way he's going, he can look back at such a rich career that I think means more than just having success or earning a lot of money or fame.

"He probably speaks five or six languages, he can probably go to multiple clubs and be welcomed with open arms. Just massive admiration and my career hopefully when I get to the end of it I can have a fraction of the experiences I had."
