Ange in first Tottenham speech as Celtic hero promises to take ailing giants in a 'new direction'

Ange Postecoglou has spoken for the first time as Tottenham manager as he aims to take them in a "new direction".

The Greek-Aussie was lured away from Celtic after securing a domestic Treble, with the chance to manage in the Premier League with Spurs just too big to turn down. He’s penned a four-year deal in North London and will be tasked with getting them back into the Champions League after a poor season under Antonio Conte, then assistant Cristian Stellini, who were both dismissed before the campaign ended.

Postecoglou said an emotional farewell to the Hoops earlier this week after a dominant two years in the Parkhead hotseat. Despite claiming to have held no talks with the English Premier League outfit prior to last Saturday’s Scottish Cup Final against Inverness CT, he was gone just three days later, although went with the best wishes of Celtic and their fans after claiming five of the six domestic trophies available to him.

But now the new boss addressed the fans of his latest club as he prepares to get to work with his new charges. He said: ”Hi everyone, it’s great to finally get started as manager of this great football club.

“I’m really looking forward to our task ahead. It’s a really exciting opportunity for us to set off in a new direction in a great environment that embodies the values and traditions of this fantastic football club.

“Hopefully a team you can all be proud of and more importantly, get excited by. I can assure that right through pre-season, we won’t leave any stone unturned. Myself, my staff and the players to make sure that when the league comes around, you’ll all be as excited by the season ahead as I am.

“So I really look forward to seeing everyone at the stadium, in particular at our first home game and I look forward to the journey ahead.”
