Anfield Road expansion hits new landmark after symbolic change to Liverpool stadium

There has been symbolic update in Liverpool FC's exciting expansion of their Anfield Road stand.

A gigantic, brand-new Liverpool FC crest, weighing 550kg, has been installed and now sits proudly outside of the new stand, close to the Shankly Gates and Sir Kenny Dalglish stand.

Due to its measurements and weight, the crest took three days to carefully install in pieces. Its impressive size is 5 metres by 6.9 metres, which if laid flat on the ground, would cover the entire 18-yard box.

New footage from the club also shows the latest from inside the stadium with the old upper terrace now removed and a first look at the new Anfield Road stand.

The adaptations to the Anfield Road stand will result in the Reds boasting the fifth-largest football stadium in England - and the fourth-highest capacity in the Premier League. Over the summer, the change will bring an extra 7,000 seats to increase the venue to 61,000.

Previous work was carried out in 2016, adding 8,500 to the Main Stand and boosting Anfield to its current capacity of just under 55,000, which now can be seen across the Liverpool skyline. The demand for tickets is always high and ahead of the 2023/24 season, Liverpool will play in front of their biggest home crowd for over 70 years when the top-flight season commences in August.

The Reds will open a new-look Anfield when they host Bournemouth in their first home game of the new campaign season on August 19. The Reds learned their fate on Thursday morning when the fixtures for upcoming season were officially made public.

Having requested to play the first match of the new term away to allow for the final flourishes on their £80m Anfield Road development project, Jurgen Klopp's men will be entertained by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on August 13 as Mauricio Pochettino is handed a difficult assignment for his first game as Blues boss.

After that, all eyes will turn to Anfield as Liverpool unveil their new 61,000-seater stand to the public for the first time.
