Andy Robertson delivers blunt Arsenal verdict after Liverpool's Premier League win

Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson has said that they were able to beat Arsenal on Wednesday night because they simply "played better" in the second half of the clash at the Emirates.

The fixture was a big one for both sides. After Manchester City were held to a 0-0 draw by Crystal Palace on Monday night, Jurgen Klopp was hoping his team would narrow the gap at the top to just one point, while Mikel Arteta looked to tighten the Gunners' grip on fourth place.

The Spaniard will have been pleased with what he saw inside the first half, as the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka caused problems for the Reds' backline. But Liverpool flexed their muscles at the start of the second half.

Diogo Jota fired the visitors in front in the 54th minute, just as he was about to be substituted, running onto a through ball from Thiago before beating Aaron Ramsdale at his near post. It is a moment the goalkeeper will be disappointed with, getting his positioning all wrong to concede the crucial opener.

The strike did not change Klopp's mind, however, and Jota was withdrawn alongside Luis Diaz, for Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino. It still proved an inspired change, as in the 62nd minute, Firmino was on hand to tap home a low cross from Robertson to secure a crucial three points.

Robertson spoke to Sky Sports after the game and delivered a brutal assessment of why Liverpool ultimately ran out winners at the Emirates, saying simply: "I think we just played a bit better to be honest."
