Andy Murray-owned country house hotel one hour from Edinburgh named Scotland's best by Conde Nast

Andy Murray has thousands of fans across the globe and he can rightly lay claim to being one of Scotland's favourite sons.

But it appears there are plenty of fans of the Wimbledon winner's hotel too.

In 2013, the tennis star splashed out £1.8million to buy luxury retreat Cromlix, which is located near Murray's hometown of Dunblane.

The five star hotel boasts 15 rooms and suites, a Chez Roux restaurant run by revered chef Albert Roux and an array of activities across its 34 acre estate, including trout fishing and archery.

And the luxury accommodation - just a one hour drive from Edinburgh - has just been given a huge shout out, having been included a newly published Conde Nast list of the UK's best country hotels.

Rubbing shoulders alongside the likes of Barnsley House in the Cotswolds, The Grove in Hertfordshire and Berkshire's Cliveden House, Cromlix features as Scotland's only entrant on account of its 'intimate, homely feel' and 'charming original features'.

Conde Nast writers said of the Andy Murray owned accommodation: "The Scottish countryside is positively peppered with grand estates, so why does Cromlix stand out as one of the best?

"First, we must address the elephant in the room that is Andy Murray, as the tennis player is the current owner of the property and his wife, Kim Sears, had a big influence on the interiors.

"But the country house hotel doesn’t lean on its famous owner as the only reason why one might want to pay a visit. The hotel has an intimate, homely feel to it, with decor gracious, yet glamorous, and particular attention has been paid to both preserving and highlighting the house’s charming original features.

"Under its turreted roof sits a billiards room, a whisky room, a library and two drawing rooms, as well as a canteen-style observatory restaurant with an open kitchen.

"The 15 rooms are luxuriously kitted out with thick pile carpets, heavy curtains, huge beds and the softest towels, as well as generous supplies of toiletries from Arran Aromatics.

"Rumour has it that Judy Murray took on the arduous task of trying out every single room in the hotel to ensure it was up to scratch."
