Andy Murray fought back to rescue his second round clash at Wimbledon as the Scot produced heroics on centre court but will have to wait to find out his fate.
It was a passionate display at SW19 from the former world number one who saw a battling start with Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas not go as planned. Murray won a tie break to level the match in the second after Tsitsipas had done the same while the sun still shone down on centre court. The home crowd were well behind the 36-year-old and gave the Greek some stick, especially as he returned some time after Murray from a bathroom break, a quirk that annoyed the Scot when the two met at the US Open in 2021.
Yet both held their ground well before the dreaded 11pm curfew called time on the match after three sets as Murray served for the lead with the heat inside centre court reaching fever pitch. There was an audible scare in the air when Murray overstretched on a return and seemed to be in pain much to the dismay of the fans. But the Scot continued on to seal the third set as the clock ticked down.
The announcement of the curfew was made with twenty minutes to go as the crowd showed their disappointment. But Murray will get the chance to seal the deal against the Greek on Friday. The Scot leads 6-7 (3) 7-6 (2) 6-4.
