Andy Considine Aberdeen exit leaves Dons fans 'heartbroken' as shock news splits opinion

The news Andy Considine is set to leave Aberdeen has sent shockwaves around the Red Army.

Record Sport exclusively revealed on Tuesday night the Pittodrie side has pulled the plug on a contract offer.

A new deal following a torrid season with injury was on the table, but it's been ripped away in a dramatic U-turn.

He made his debut way back in 2004 and some fans of a certain generation don't know Aberdeen without the defender.

But that reality beckons after a huge call by new manager Jim Goodwin – leaving both Considine and fans of the club stunned.

It's the type of decision managers can be made or broke on and the ex- St Mirren boss will hope cutting a club legend doesn't backfire in the long-run.

Some think the Irishman's decision is correct, with one fan saying: "Unpopular opinion no doubt but if rumours about Considine are true then I for one won't lose sleep.

"Derek McInnes' reliance on him at left back cost us dearly over the years. He's been a decent club servant but epitomises the second best mentality we need to lose."

That need to cut ties with sentimentality fuels another's opinion: "Considine is not the future for Aberdeen. He would have been a squad player if retained."

That isn't representative of the entire fanbase, however. Many are of the frame of mind someone who's gone through thick and thin with Aberdeen should be allowed to stick around.

A supporter stated: "If you look at what he’s done for the club we should let him stay as long he wants one of the few club legends we will see in our lifetime."

Another wailed: "Absolute joke of a decision." One simply said: "Uncool."

Having already lost experienced men over the last 12 months, losing Considine would be a case of history repeating itself, according to one fan.

They said: "Forced Shay Logan out to bring in Scott Brown. Forcing Considine out. Does this club not learn? It's like it wants supporters to turn against it and season ticket sales to go down."

Despite the contrasting opinions on his reliability, one supporter summed up the mood of the Pittodrie camp: "Considine not getting that deal may have just broken my heart.

"Especially if it’s due to injuries. Mikey Devlin’s been injured for three years and is still on the payroll whereas Considine’s been injured seven months and in the matchday squads. My hero."
