Sir Keir Starmer has defended Labour chiefs blocking Andy Burnham from a Commons comeback ahead of “critical elections”.
The Prime Minister was one of eight members of a panel of Labour’s ruling National Executive Committee who voted against Mr Burnham being allowed to stand in the Gorton and Denton by-election.
