
The Pogues drummer Andrew Ranken has died aged 72.
Nicknamed “The Clobberer”, Ranken was a founding member of the band, who are best known for their Christmas hit, Fairtale of New York.
He performed drums, percussion, harmonica and backing vocals between 1983 and 1996 before later returned from 2001 until 2014.
The band confirmed his passing in a post shared to social media, which read: “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Andrew Ranken, drummer, founding member, and heartbeak of The Pogues.
