Andrew Garfield announces he is quitting acting to focus on being 'ordinary for a while'

Andrew Garfield has revealed he has decided to take a break from acting to take time to be 'ordinary for a while'.

Since 2020, the Social Network actor has starred in Mainstream, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Tick, Tick... Boom! and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

He also has a main role in the upcoming miniseries, Under the Banner of Heaven.

In a new interview with Variety, Andrew shared: "I need to recalibrate and reconsider what I want to do next and who I want to be, and just be a bit of a person for a while."

Andrew, 38, also won Best Actor for a Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes this year for Tick, Tick... Boom! and was nominated for a SAG Award and an Oscar for the same movie.

However, the Awards season is a tiring one for the talented actor, who said: "That is a washing machine, that awards season."

Although he feels 'privileged and lucky' to be part of the industry, he wants to go 'be ordinary for a while'.

In The Eyes of Tammy Faye, he starred as Jim Bakker, an American televangelist and convicted fraudster. He hosted The PTL Club with his wife Tammy Faye.

For Tick, Tick... Boom!, Andrew showcased his musical talent as he took on the role of American composer Jonathan Larson.

He also reprised his role as Peter Parker in the new instalment of Spider-Man (along with Toby Maguire), which exhilarated fans around the world.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, it was reported that he and his girlfriend split up days after he lost out on an Oscar to fellow nominee Will Smith.

Andrew and the 32-year-old American model only made their red carpet debut as a couple almost two months ago after first being linked late last year.

However, reports suggested that the love burned out between the pair – with the duo said to have agreed to go their separate ways.

Andrew and Alyssa had attended the SAG Awards in February together, but when it came to the Oscars last month, the Spider-Man star waltzed to the event solo.

A source told The Sun : “Andrew and Alyssa were a really beautiful couple and things were going great at first.

“They were together for quite some time before they went public, but work schedules mean it has been really hard to see each other.

“On top of that it became clear that there were some differences between them and it was decided they are better off apart, for now at least.

“It was disappointing for Andrew because he’d have loved to have shared the excitement of the awards season with someone he loved, but it just wasn’t supposed to be.”
