Andrew and Tristan Tate must remain in US custody while fighting extradition to UK

  • A Miami federal judge has ruled that Andrew and Tristan Tate must remain in US custody while fighting extradition to the UK over rape and sex trafficking charges.
  • US Magistrate Lauren Louis rejected a defence motion for release, stating the brothers failed to prove they are not a flight risk or a danger to the community.
  • Lawyers for the dual US-British citizens argued that their continued detention in America severely hampers their ability to prepare for ongoing legal proceedings in Romania.
  • Prosecutors maintained the brothers pose a flight risk due to their financial resources and access to multiple passports, despite defence claims that their online wealth is exaggerated.
  • The brothers, who are supporters of US president Donald Trump , have been held at the Federal Detention Center in Miami since their arrest on 18 July.
