Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills believes the club may have hit the panic button in sacking manager Jesse Marsch, but says the American's strange behaviour didn't help his cause in recent weeks after failing to admit the club's perilous position. Leeds announced on Monday afternoon that Marsch had been relived of duties after less than a year in charge, with a 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest his final game in charge.
The loss at the City Ground has left the Whites firmly in a relegation fight sitting 17th in the Premier League table, only ahead of Everton (who have just changed their manager) on goals scored. Despite a run of results that has seen Leeds go three months since their last league victory, Marsch continued to remain positive about his side's performances and didn't appear to concede his side were even in a relegation fight.
Mills believes those comments and some of the American's reactions to recent results failed to help his cause with the club's owners.

"I think of late, some of his press conferences, some of the things that he has been saying. Even this weekend after the defeat he said 'It's all on me' and before that he said he didn't like stress and didn't like being judged on results. very, very strange comments," Mills told the Football Daily podcast.
"And even after the defat this weekend he said 'we're not in a relegation battle'. If I am the hierarchy I am thinking 'yes you are in a relegation battle'. There's less than half the season to go, you've won one game in nine, not won since fifth of November or something like that, you are in it! You are up that creek and there is no paddle at the moment so you need to start changing things around.'
"Leeds have panicked a little bit and now they're looking for a new manager."
The manager search continues with Michael Skubala, Paco Gallardo and Chris Armas set to be in control of matters when Leeds make a trip to Old Trafford to face Man United on Wednesday evening.
