Andre Ayew releases statement after ex-Swansea City star's contract ripped up and next destination emerges

Andre Ayew paid tribute to Barcelona legend Xavi following his departure from Al Sadd.

The attacker joined the Qatari outfit - who were then managed by current Barcelona boss Xavi - after leaving Swansea City in the summer of 2021.

He won the Qatari Stars League and the Emir of Qatar Cup during his time in the Middle East but, on Sunday, confirmed that he was leaving Al Sadd after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract with the club.

And in a statement following his exit, Ayew paid a special tribute to Xavi among others as he now bids to find a new club.

"Big thanks to Al Sadd SC, the coaches and management who believed in me at Al Sadd SC, especially @xavi who brought me here, and Juanma Lillo and to all my teammates who have become brothers," he wrote on Instagram.

"I also want to thank the amazing fans for the massive support all these years.

"It was great and humbling serving this great club. The trophies we won and the impact we made was based on hard work and I count myself fortunate to have been part of the club’s rich history.

"We won: The Qatar Stars League, The Qatar FA Cup (Emir Cup). I wish Al Sadd FC all the best.

"The club will always have a special place in my heart because Ayew and Al Sadd started decades ago and will never end."

Reports in Ayew's homeland of Ghana state the 33-year-old is keen on a return to Europe, with former club Marseille said to be interested in securing his services.
