Andoni Iraola drops honest verdict on Liverpool squad ahead of new Premier League season

  • Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has confirmed the club will "definitely sign some players" before the transfer window closes on 1 September, admitting that the current squad remains "still quite thin".
  • The Reds are currently light in key areas following the departures of Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate, and Curtis Jones, alongside a long-term injury sustained by Hugo Ekitike.
  • Summer recruitment has so far been limited to winger Victor Munoz and defender Ronaldo Araujo, alongside Jeremey Jacquet who officially arrived at Anfield following a £55m deal completed in February.
  • Liverpool are actively seeking attacking reinforcements, remaining in talks with Paris Saint-Germain over Bradley Barcola—who is valued at £145m—after having a £50m bid for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh rejected.
  • Additional squad depth is required if Liverpool are to mount a Premier League title challenge ahead of their 2026/27 campaign opener away against Newcastle United on Sunday, 23 August.
