Andhra Pradesh: TTD prasadam may go clean cooking way

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Union ministry of power-led Bureau of Energy Efficiency has suggested the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) explore energy efficiency opportunities in the area of electric retrofits of conventional vehicles, electric cooking and hospitals and office buildings associated with the TTD.

As maha prasadam of the TTD is world famous, BEE advised the TTD to prepare the prasadam by clean cooking, which is economical and emits zero carbon. The BEE will extend necessary technical support for the initiative. The BEE has directed Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) to send a proposal for clean cooking in coordination with the TTD.

In a communication to state energy secretary B Sreedhar and APSECM, the director general of BEE, Abhay Bakre, assured full support in making the TTD one of the best energy efficient pilgrim destinations in the world.

Executive officer, TTD, Dr KS Jawahar Reddy thanked the Union ministry of power and the BEE chief who visited Tirupati for selecting TTD in Andhra Pradesh for a feasibility study to identify and adopt strategies to achieve net zero energy (NZE) consumption. TTD has been selected along with four other tourist locations in Maharashtra, Kerala, Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir. This is part of promoting sustainable tourism in India under India-European Union’s Clean Energy and Climate Partnership (CECP) project.

“The TTD with the support of the APSECM has initiated the replacement of existing conventional appliances like tubelights, fans and conventional pump sets (on a pilot basis) with LED tube lights, BLDC fan and energy efficient pumps,” said Jawahar Reddy.

Bakre said the BEE has prepared a draft blueprint on National Carbon Market (NCM) and asked the AP State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) to submit its feedback on NCM.

According to the DG-BEE, the NCM would help create an effective and meaningful marketplace for carbon emissions trading. This will also help lower the economic cost of reducing emissions. This makes significance as energy-saving investment potential of the country is estimated to be about 10.02 lakh crore under a moderate savings scenario.

Bakre said the energy saving potential in the industrial sector is expected to be 5.15 lakh crore, followed by the transport sector with 2.26 lakh crore. The domestic sector has the potential of 1.2 lakh crore in the country.
