The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is all set to provide house sites to its employees, fulfilling a dream that has remained elusive for three decades.
TTD Chairman Y.V. Subba Reddy, accompanied by MLA B. Karunakar Reddy, handed over a cheque for ₹61.63 crore towards the land cost to Chittoor Collector M. Hari Narayanan here on Tuesday for the purpose.
Mr. Subba Reddy said Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy responded positively to the pleas made by him, Chittoor district Minister P. Ramachandra Reddy and the local MLA. The district officials have been told to identify land for providing house sites to the TTD employees free of cost, he said.
The government has identified 300.22 acres in Padiredu forest village to provide house sites to 5,518 employees. Anticipating trouble, the TTD trust board was advised to pass a resolution to this effect. The sites were decided way back in October 2008 and a dip was taken in 2010 on seniority basis. However, the issue reached the Supreme Court. The TTD came forward to make the goodwill payment for the employees as it could be difficult for them to pay up huge amounts.
