VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh reported 1,679 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, taking the cumulative caseload to 23,08,622. The toll increased to 14,679 as two more patients succumbed to the pandemic. One patient each died in Krishna and Chittoor districts.
As many as 9,598 patients were declared cured on Wednesday, outnumbering the fresh infections for the third consecutive day. The active caseload dropped below the 50,000 mark to 46,119 with 22,47,824 cumulative recoveries and 14,679 fatalities. Only three districts have more than 5,000 active cases each.
The third wave outbreak epicentre seems to have shifted to East Godavari as this south coastal district is now posting the highest number of cases for the last 10 days.
East Godavari reported 350 new cases on Wednesday, followed by Krishna (225), Guntur (212), West Godavari (142), Visakhapatnam (128), Kadapa (104), Kurnool (103), Anantapur (102) and Chittoor (102).
Nellore (91), Prakasam (87), Srikakulam (22) and Vizianagaram (11) recorded double-digit case numbers.
The positivity rate dropped to 6.1% as the new cases were detected in tests conducted on 27,522 people.
Meanwhile, the state crossed the 95% second dose coverage of the Covid-19 vaccination among the 18-plus age group. The state has so far administered 8.25 crore vaccine doses.
The state, which has achieved 100% first dose coverage among the 15-18 age group, has given the second dose to about 35% eligible beneficiaries in this category. The state is targeting 100% second coverage in both groups by the end of the month.
