Andhra Pradesh: Public, police interface should be developed, says DGP

VISAKHAPATNAM: New state police chief Kasireddy Rajendranath Reddy said the department is planning to bring women police appointed in village and ward secretariats under the Village Police Act which is still in force though the Village Police System was abolished many years ago.

He further said that the interface between the police and the public should be developed more to create confidence in the common man about the police system.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Rajendranath Reddy said all the 15,000 women police officers would be linked with the police department very soon, just like the home guards network.

“We are examining whether it would be good to bring these women officers in secretariats under Village Police Act or which set up is the better. If we link them with the department, they can help police machinery. The matter is pending in court. We will take a decision based on the court decision,” he said.

Weekly offs for police personnel would be resumed soon. Due to Covid-19 situation, the department was not in a position to allow the weekly off, he said.
