VIJAYAWADA: Political parties in Andhra Pradesh are maintaining absolute silence over the NDA candidate for the presidential election, Draupadi Murmu. Though the announcement came on Tuesday, neither the ruling YSR Congress nor the opposition TDP has made any statement over the BJP’s selection.
Even the Jana Sena, which is now the ally of BJP, did not make any statement. It was only the BJP AP unit, which welcomed it and thanked the party top leadership for selecting an ST leader for the country’s top post. BJP AP unit president Somu Veerraju said that the BJP had got three chances to select candidates for the presidential elections. “The party nominated a Muslim (APJ Abdul Kalam) first, then a Dalit (Ram Nath Kovind) and now an ST woman (Draupadi Murmu), which no party would have done,” said Veerraju.
