Andhra Pradesh: NHAI to prepare feasibility report for Road-Over-Bridges in Guntur

GUNTUR: Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) commissioner Nishant Kumar has roped in National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to ready a feasibility report for the construction of new Road-Over-Bridges (ROB) and Road-Under-Bridges (RUB) in the city.

Along with senior officials of NHAI, Nishant Kumar inspected sites proposed for taking up the new projects. GMC is determined to take up a ROB at Sankar Vilas Junction and Inner Ring Road (IRR) and a RUB near Syamala Nagar.

"Regional officer of NHAI, Shravan Kumar Singh, has promised to ready the feasibility report on all the three projects within a week," said Nishant Kumar. He said that a ROB at Sankar Vilas Junction was much required in view of the growing vehicular population. He said that the existing ROB was constructed almost 50 years ago and needs to be demolished.

Proposals for construction of a new ROB have been pending for the past few years. Although, the TDP government promised to take it up with a cost of 350 crore, it failed to materialise due to a paucity of funds. Similarly, the proposal for a ROB near IRR has been pending for the past few years.

All the proposals were revived by YSRC MLC Lella Appireddy when he requested the chief minister's office (CMO) to ask the competent authorities to expedite the projects. Subsequently, Appireddy met GMC commissioner Nishant Kumar and urged him to set his focus on the pending projects. Nishant Kumar met R&B principal secretary MT Krishna Babu, who deputed NHAI regional officer to study the proposals of the commissioner. "We are hopeful of getting a positive feasibility report from the NHAI and also fund support from the Centre," said Nishant Kumar.

He said that RUB near Syamala Nagar was also an urgent to decongest traffic coming into the city as it connects two important highways to Sattenapalle and Narasaraopet.
