VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh reported 4,198 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, taking the cumulative caseload to 22,97,369. This is the lowest one-day total in the last 20 days. The toll increased to 14,646 as five more patients succumbed to the pandemic. Two patients died in Chittoor, and one each in Nellore, Guntur and Prakasam.
The daily recoveries outnumbered fresh infections for the fifth consecutive day after 9,317 patients were declared cured. There are currently 88,364 active cases with 21,94,359 cumulative recoveries and 14,646 deaths. Three districts currently have more than 10,000 active cases each. Vizianagaram has 1,150 active cases, the lowest among all the districts.
Of the 88,364 active cases, about 1,900 patients have been admitted to hospitals. Only about 400 patients are currently availing the services at Covid care centres. The remaining patients have opted for home isolation facility. The daily positivity rate further dropped to 13.5% as the new cases were detected from tests conducted on 30,886 people. The ongoing 37th round of fever survey has so far covered about 70% of the 1.61 crore households in the state.
