Anders Holch Povlsen, with a £6.5bn fortune, is the richest person in Scotland, according to the new edition of The Sunday Times Rich List.
The 34th annual edition shows there are a record 177 billionaires in the UK this year, up six from 2021.
Their combined wealth is £653bn, up by 9.4% or £55.8bn, on the total wealth of the billionaires in last year’s list. Overall, the richest 250 in the UK this year are worth £710bn, up 8% compared to the £658bn reported in 2021.
Povlsen, 49, heads the Scottish list with a personal fortune rising by £500m on last year.
He is now Scotland’s largest landowner, with more than 220,000 acres. Povlsen is the owner of the Danish fashion retailer Bestseller and holds a stake of around 25% in the UK online fashion firm Asos.
The 10 billionaires at the head of the 2022 list hold a combined wealth of £23bn - with more than a quarter of this being in the hands of Povlsen.
Greenock brothers Sandy and James Easdale, former directors of Rangers FC, are the wealthiest newcomers to the list, with a £1.36bn fortune based upon transport and property acquisitions.
Now worth £996m, down £4m after a fall in the value of investments, Monaco-based Jim McColl, 70 - head of East Kilbride engineering operation Clyde Blowers - has lost his billionaire status.
Ranked 12th in Scotland, and worth £850m, is Harry Potter author Joanne Rowling, who has added £30m to her personal fortune since 2021. The Bristol-born Edinburgh resident, 56, continues to make large charitable donations, including £6.7m last year, from her Volant Trust.
Scotland's richest people have fared less well than those elsewhere in the UK, with half of this year's 10 Scottish billionaires seeing their fortunes fall over the past year.
The combined wealth of the country’s 10 billionaires is still up, at nearly 2% on 2021.
