For those of us who watch him week in and week out, we know just how good Nick Chubb has been for the Cleveland Browns since breaking into the league in 2018. And the analytics community agrees that he was the most valuable running back in the NFL last season as he scored the highest in Wins Above Replacement (WAR). This essentially means that Chubb carries the most value at the position in comparison to a league-average running back stepping in for him.
The problem, however, continues to be the value of the running back position as a whole as even Chubb does not add a single win above replacement. As the Browns continue to navigate their cap space beyond 2022, it will be interesting to see how they handle the running back position.
