Authorities are currently in the midst of a large-scale search operation off the Western Australian coastline after a man disappeared while snorkelling.

Police were called to the scene at the coast off Ledge Point, approximately 120km north of Perth, at 3pm last Thursday after receiving a report that a man had gone missing.

“A number of resources have been deployed to the area and are attempting to locate the male, including Water Police,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.

The missing man went snorkelling with a group of four people before he disappeared, as reported by 7News.

Emergency services quickly launched a coordinated search effort, with PolAir and Lancelin Sea Rescue scouring the surrounding waters throughout the afternoon. Police were also spotted on quad bikes driving around the coastline, searching for the man from land. Despite extensive aerial and marine searches, the man could not be located.

Footage from the scene shows an empty tinny anchored offshore near the location where the man was last seen entering the water.

Water police and other resources have been scouring the area over the past days, but have not been able to locate the male snorkeller.

A police helicopter has also been doing a grid search off the main beach, and there has been a large number of police officers on the sand during the search.

Authorities have not released further details about the man’s identity or the circumstances surrounding his disappearance. The search for the snorkeller remains ongoing.

It comes after news that two women died and a man has gone missing after drowning in seperate incidents along Sydney’s eastern beaches on New Years Day. A 45-year-old woman was pulled out of the water at Dunbogan Beach after drowning, and could not be revived despite attempts from both paramedics and police.

In a separate incident, a woman was found dead after being struck by a wave and pulled into the water at the nearby Maroubra beach.

A man has also gone missing at Coogee Beach after being caught in a rip with two others. While the other two were rescued by off-duty lifesavers, they were unable to bring him to shore. A search is currently under way.

This story is developing.
