Opening Day 2023 had its share of rough umpire moments, which isn’t anything new.
But I have to call out this one from the St. Louis Cardinals’ 10-9 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.
With Dan Iassogna behind the dish, Jays reliever Adam Cimber threw a pitch to Brendan Donovan that was as outside as you’ll ever see a ball in a catcher’s mitt. Yet it was called a strike!
Now, I get it: Umpiring is tough. But this is another good video to file away in the “robot umps are probably a good idea” case.
