A new biopic on Amy Winehouse will be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and may star Lady Gaga in the titular role.
The 50 Shades of Grey director, 55, confirmed the news she was leading the project yesterday, saying it was a "dream movie to helm".
Mum-of-two Sam-Taylor, who is married to actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 32, added: "I'm ready, let's go… #amywinehouse #backtoblack."
The film has long been in the offing, but the main question on everyone's lips now is, who will play the star – who tragically died aged 27 in 2011.
With Amy's astonishing voice and timeless soul, whoever gets the gig has got to be great – and rumours are singer-turned-actress Lady Gaga could be in the running.
After her stint in A Star Is Born and The House of Gucci, the Edge of Glory singer, 36, is hot property in Hollywood.
Gaga once described Amy as "the best" in an Instagram post and now fans are desperate for her to play the star, noting the singer's performance style and personal admiration for the London-born talent.
No details about the cast or the script have been leaked, but the film is expected to chart Amy's extraordinary life from a local jazz singer in Camden to earning multiple Grammy awards.
Writer Matt Greenhalgh has written the screenplay, while Studiocanal is producing with Alison Owen and Debra Hayward, alongside Tracey Seaward, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The project is also said to have received full support from Amy's family.
Following her tragic death in 2011, there have been multiple attempts to produce a film about the late singer.
Though plans for feature films have previously fallen through, a documentary titled Amy, directed by Asif Kapadia, premiered at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, and later earned an Oscar for best documentary.
However, Amy's father Mitch was appalled by the offering, accusing Kapadia of painting a “negative, spiteful and misleading” portrayal of his daughter.
“Amy will not get an Oscar though. Just Asif Kapadia,” he fumed “That is what this is all about … Asif. He’s fooled everybody.”
Last July, the BBC aired a documentary entitled Amy Winehouse: 10 Years On, where the singer's mother, Janis Winehouse, chronicled her late daughter's life. The film debuted on the 10th anniversary of the star's death.
"I don't feel the world knew the true Amy, the one I brought up," Janis said in a press release at the time.
"I'm looking forward to the opportunity to offer an understanding of her roots and a deeper insight into the real Amy."
Hopefully, Sam's Back to Black will do just that.
