Amsterdam Schiphol cut flights in change affecting any UK holidaymakers heading there

Fans of Liverpool FC heading to Amsterdam soon could face potential chaos at Schiphol airport.

The Reds are due to head to Amsterdam to play AFC Ajax at their home in Johan Cruijff ArenA on October 26. However, those with travel plans may face disruption as the airport has made changes affecting all holidaymakers heading there.

Amsterdam Schiphol airport will be implementing a passenger cap for October, with passenger capacity being slashed by 18% - This is a reduction of 9,250 passengers every day. This means that more flight cancellations are incoming, with tens of thousands of passengers being left frustrated.

According to Euronews, Amerstdam's main hub will reduce its daily passenger cap to 54,500 in September and 57,000 per day in October. This is due to an ongoing shortage of security staff.

According to unions, the airport offered an extra €5.25 per hour bonus in July and August which initially attracted many to the role. However, with this now gone, many have rapidly left the team, resulting in Schiphol having to cut numbers once again.

Dutch airline KLM has been proactively cancelling routes in advance to lessen the burden on the airport in the short run and try to maintain essential routes first. They said: "The measures will have far-reaching consequences for our passengers, colleagues and the national and international reputation of Schiphol and therefore KLM."
