America's $1 trillion annual interest bill is growing as national debt surges, so why isn't the US facing a debt crisis like France?

The US is using an incredible amount of money simply to pay off its national debt. This means that interest payments are using up resources that could have been used for things like health care, construction, education, etc. However, despite growing costs of borrowing and deficit spending, Washington is not under the same sort of pressure right now that France finds itself in.
