American journalist 'shot dead by Russian forces' reports Ukraine police

An award-winning New York Times journalist has allegedly been shot dead and another injured by Russian forces, according to Ukraine police.

The head of Kyiv region police said that one journalist has been killed while another has been injured in the city of Irpin close to the capital.

In a statement, The New York Times newspaper confirmed the tragic death of their colleague, Brent Renaud, who was a "talented" photographer and film maker, but were keen to stress that he was not on an assignment for the paper in Ukraine, The Mirror reports.
