American Idol stars who returned to normal jobs - from Hooters girl to pageant queen

The American Idol season 21 grand finale is taking place this weekend, with three contestants battling it out in order to be crowned the winner.

The show's Disney night took place during Sunday’s (May 14) episode, with five hopefuls being whittled down to three.

Five became three as America decided on who would be going through to the final, with Iam Tongi, Megan Danielle and Colin Stough all triumphant.

But what about the past contestants of the show who ended up back in their day job after finding a little bit of fame on the talent show?

Camile came in at ninth place in the third season of American Idol, with the Hawaii waitress reportedly taking a job at Subway after leaving the show.

Before auditioning for the show she worked at the International House of Pancakes in Kahului as a waitress, but it seems as though making music is where her passions and talents lie.

But now things have looked up for the Maui star, with her launching a reggae, hip-hop career and a track, Mr. Sensi, which has garnered over 6.6 million views on YouTube.

She’s now known as the singer-songwriter Eli-Mac, and in a recent interview she opened up about her career.

"As far as the future of Eli-Mac, in my eyes, I have only just begun. Every year, I strive to reach a higher level and plateau in my career, and I do feel like I have been achieving that thus far," she told Maui Now.

Sanjaya Malakar - Bartender

Placing seventh in the sixth series of the hit talent show, Sanjaya didn't end up garnering worldwide fame.

In 2009 he did appear in the American version of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! as well as popping up on various other daytime shows around the same time also.

As of May 2012, he was a bartender living in Queens, New York, according to reports.

Two years later in April 2014 however, he quit working at an East Village bar to have more time and energy to focus on his music.

In 2016 he performed at the Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort in Washington, with him even singing seven jazz standards on the album Good Merlin by The Chaz Lipp Groove Tripp.

Jessica Sierra - Hooters waitress

From American Idol to working in Hooters, Jessica might have come in at 10th place in season four, but she ended up ditching music shortly after.

Leaving the show led to a chaotic chapter of Jessica's life, with her getting arrested and found with cocaine in her possession. She even ended up in rehab for a short while.

Tampa Times reports that Jessica did give her music career a go in the beginning, with her going to Nashville to record some songs.

But she soon ended up back in Tampa, working as a Hooters waitress, according to reports.

Jasmine Murray - Pageant queen

Jasmine was in the top 13 finalists in season eight, with her maintaining a career in the arts.

The stunning singer ended up competing in the Miss Mississippi pageant, with her even winning the competition in 2014 - as well as a $10,000 scholarship.

These days she has 53,000 followers on Instagram and dubs herself as a model.

Her bio also states: "Miss MS ‘14. Top 10 Miss America ‘15 American Idol Season 8:Top 13 Finalist."

In 2018 she released an album entitled Fearless, with her last single being released in 2019.

Ramiele Malubay finished ninth in the 17th season of American Idol, with the singer going on to become a nurse after her stint on the show.

The brunette beauty who made her mark on the talent show ended up becoming a registered nurse and specialising in strokes and neurology, according to various reports.

She also runs an online store that sells headbands and face masks, all while being a doting dog mama and wife to Roke.
