American chain Hooters set to open at Salford Quays

The Hooters restaurant chain where scantily clad young waitresses serve customers with food and drink has applied for a licence for an outlet at Salford Quays. An application has been submitted by Nottingham-based Julian Mills, 46 for the restaurant at 3 Capital Quay Salford to run from May 4.

The only other Hooters is based in Nottingham, but another one has been given the go-ahead in Liverpool against a backlash of opposition.

The application submitted to Salford City Council is for a licence to run live music, recorded music and dance performances. If granted, it will open from 9am to 1am seven days a week, along the lines of US-based Hooters restaurants. Plans to open only the second Hooters restaurant in the UK in Liverpool were met by a petition which slated the chain as 'an archaic and chauvinistic brand'.

In the application, Mr Mills has agreed to advertise his application 'in the local newspaper and that notice should appear at least once within 10 working days of the application being submitted'.
