An American Airlines passenger was taken into custody in Miami after reportedly stripping off her clothes and engaging in alleged indecent behaviour during the flight. The incident happened aboard Flight 1779 as it travelled from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) to Miami International Airport on Friday, 11 September 2026.
The aircraft continued to its planned destination despite the disturbance, with law enforcement officers reportedly waiting for it when it reached Miami. The passenger was then detained at the airport, according to reports citing aircraft communications records and flight-tracking information.
Disturbance Reported During Flight
The Airbus A319 departed BWI after 9 p.m. on 11 September 2026 and was travelling south towards Florida when a cabin crew member alerted the cockpit about a problem involving a woman seated in row nine. Reports based on an Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) message said the passenger had removed her clothes and behaved inappropriately in view of people nearby.
According to an ACARS message published by aviation website AirLive, the lead flight attendant reported that a passenger in seat 9D had removed all her clothes and was behaving indecently in view of other passengers.
The ACARS message instructed that the incident be reported to American Airlines' operations centre and that law enforcement be requested for the aircraft's arrival. Public reports did not establish why the passenger behaved in this way, and no confirmed information has been released about what may have prompted the incident.
Flight Continued to Miami
Flight 1779 departed Baltimore at 9:09 p.m. EDT on 11 September, nearly two hours later than scheduled, and arrived in Miami at about 11:23 p.m. EDT. Flight-tracking records show the aircraft was an Airbus A319 and completed the journey to Miami without diverting to another airport.
The aircraft arrived at Miami International Airport's Terminal N and was listed at Gate D2, according to flight-tracking information. Reports said officers were waiting for the aircraft and took the passenger into custody after it reached the gate.
The crew alerted the cockpit to the reported behaviour, and the ACARS communication called for the matter to be reported to the airline's operations centre and for law enforcement to be present on arrival.
Passenger's Identity Remains Unclear
The woman's name, age and reason for the behaviour have not been publicly identified in the reports. There is also no confirmed public information about whether she faces criminal charges over her behaviour aboard the aircraft.
A separate American Airlines flight was disrupted on 3 September when a passenger allegedly became violent during a journey from Dallas-Fort Worth to Newark. Passengers helped restrain the man using duct tape and zip ties provided by a flight attendant before the aircraft diverted to Baltimore, where law enforcement took him into custody.
The aircraft continued to Miami without diverting, and available reports do not indicate that the incident caused injuries or forced the crew to alter the flight's planned destination.
