AMD Wants A Bigger Piece Of The AI Boom. It's Investing Up to $5 Billion in Anthropic

Advanced Micro Devices is making one of the biggest strategic bets in its history, agreeing to invest up to $5 billion in artificial intelligence company Anthropic as part of a sweeping partnership that also includes the sale of tens of billions of dollars' worth of AI servers powered by AMD's next-generation chips.

The agreement calls for Anthropic, the company behind the Claude family of AI models, to purchase up to two gigawatts of computing capacity based on AMD's upcoming Instinct MI450 chips beginning in the first half of 2027. AMD's equity investment, which could reach $5 billion, will be tied to deployment milestones as Anthropic builds out its rapidly expanding AI infrastructure.
