- Amazon is introducing a new 3.5 per cent "fuel and logistics" charge for sellers using its "Fulfillment by Amazon" (FBA) service.
- This temporary surcharge, effective from 17 April, will be added to existing fulfilment fees and is expected to average around 17 pence per unit.
- Amazon stated the fee is necessary to offset elevated fuel and logistics costs across the industry, but did not provide an end date for the charge.
- The surcharge applies to FBA services in the US and Canada, Remote Fulfillment to Canada, Mexico, and Brazil, and will extend to Buy with Prime and Multi-Channel Fulfillment services from 2 May.
- While directly impacting sellers, it is anticipated that Amazon customers may ultimately bear some of these increased costs through higher product prices, mirroring similar surcharges introduced by FedEx and UPS.
