Amazon to Cut Up to 16,000 Corporate Jobs as AI Competition Intensifies

Beth Galetti, Amazon’s senior vice president of people experience and technology, said in a blog post on Wednesday that U.S.-based employees affected by the layoffs will be given 90 days to search for a new role within the company. They will also receive severance packages and other support to ease the transition.

“Some of you might ask if this is the beginning of a new rhythm—where we announce broad reductions every few months. That's not our plan,” Galetti wrote. “We’ve been working to strengthen our organization by reducing layers, increasing ownership, and removing bureaucracy.”

This marks the second round of significant layoffs at Amazon since October 2025, when 14,000 jobs were cut. CEO Andy Jassy has been focused on streamlining management layers and reducing bureaucracy across the company. Last year, Jassy warned that AI and automation would reduce the workforce as Amazon continues to automate many of its operations.

Amazon employs roughly 1.57 million people globally, with the majority working in warehouses. The corporate workforce, which will be most impacted by the layoffs, totals approximately 350,000 employees.
