The return of Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime means the return of “Prime Vision” — a viewing option football fans should really start to consider full-time.
With the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings squaring off Thursday night, Amazon seemingly unveiled a much more polished “Prime Vision” that should satiate every football fan’s needs for new angles, additional context, and a much more aesthetically pleasing broadcast. How exactly does it differ from the main broadcast? (Subscribers to Amazon can find access to “Prime Vision” at the entry screen for Thursday games.)
Let’s list them out:
- The camera is at a higher angle during play and lets viewers see more of what’s happening on the field
- Receivers’ routes are traced live and shown during the action and on replays
- Throughout the game, statistical nuggets and other pieces of analysis show up in different portions of the screen
It’s not necessarily groundbreaking, and many fans won’t notice the difference too much. But “Prime Vision” also doesn’t ruin the game-watching experience — in fact, it definitely makes it markedly better. I’m looking forward to seeing how or if it develops the more the NFL season wears on.
Prime Vision received glowing reviews during its return on Thurday night.

Say what you want about Amazon, they are at least advancing the ball on viewer experience technology with these games. Prime Vision is incredible.

This is my annual plea for NFL producers to look at the Prime Vision camera angle and replicate it on every broadcast.
A huge chunk of the game happens in the secondary. Let us see it.
